Strategic Instruction is teaching students how to use a variety of tools and processes to learn.  Research tells us that students who who are successful learners have incorporated learning strategies into their behavior.  Students with learning challenges may need to be instructed on these strategies more specifically in order to incorporate them.

When implementing any instructional strategies, the instructor should:

1.   Fully describe the strategy

2.   Model the strategy while “thinking out loud”

3.   Self-instruct—have the students describe or create the strategy in their own words

4.   Practice and Critique

5.   Implement
